Systolic phases of the cardiac cycle in children.

چکیده
was determined from high-speed simultaneous recordings of the electrocardiogram, phonocardiogram, apexcardiogram, and carotid pulse. Data were obtained on children 1 mo to 13 years of age and analyzed to define the independent effects of aging and heart rate on the systolic intervals. Electromechanical systole (Q-II) was found to prolong with increasing age in children with the same heart rate. Pre-ejection period was also prolonged in older children and occupied an increased percentage of total systole. The interval from onset of contraction to first sound varied inversely with heart rate and was independent of age. Electromechanical delay and isometric contraction time were directly related to age and independent of rate. Ejection time varied directly with age and inversely with heart rate but occupied a smaller percentage of systole in older children. Alterations in systolic phase duration occurring with maturation reflect the normal functional adaptation of the developing heart. Measurement of these phases can provide useful information relative to cardiac function in children.

Dynamic changes of hemodynamic parameters and cardiac transcription of sirtuins in adaptive and mal-adaptive phases of pressure overload-induced hypertrophy in rats
Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate the structural and hemodynamic changes as well as cardiac transcriptional profile of the key regulatory proteins, sirtuins family (SIRT1-7), in adaptive and mal-adaptive phases of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Methods: LVH was induced in male Wistar rats (190±20g) by abdominal aortic banding. The third and sixteenth weeks post-surgery ...
متن کاملNormal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children
Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance. Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...

متن کاملSystolic and diastolic learning: an analogy to the cardiac cycle.
It has been observed that the active-passive classification of adult learning can be viewed in terms of a systolic-diastolic model. This model represents an analogy to the cardiac cycle and the work done by the heart during these two phases of the cycle. The determinants of systolic and diastolic learning can be compared to the determinants of cardiac function: preload, afterload and contractil...

Extended abstract Echocardiographic Evaluation of Left Ventricular Function and Geometry in Pediatric Patients with Kidney Transplantation Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important, leading cause of mortality and morbidity in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) as well as in renal transplant recipients. Cardiovascular complications become more important in children because of the i...
